Last week see the earliest heavy snowfall and resulting disruption for a generation. In marked contrast to the justifiable complaints and long term disorganisation of last winter, all our local councils seemed to get it right this time. Gritting was undertaken early and in the high priority areas where it was needed.

Last winter Lib Dem Councillors worked hard, not only to try and resolve the problems and minimise the effects of the snow. We also demanded and got a review of what council’s can and should do, and more robust measures to help our community cope with sudden extreme weather conditions.

In my area enterprising youngsters used their initiative and helped residents clear the snow from drives and footpaths. The younger generation come in for a lot of flack sometimes. I think it only fair we thank them when their actions help us all, well done Sam, Ben, Josh, George & Jamie.
